2009
After a very strong 2008 draft that carried tremendous depth and talent, expect something different in 2009. The class of 2009 will feature two stars who will undoubtebly go 1 and 2, followed by a lock in at number 3 and from there, a rather weak set of players unlike what we have seen in the UBL in years before.
So who are the 3 I speak of? Well, number 1 is OJ Mayo who will enter as one of the best draftees the league has and very well, may see. The tall, versatile and talented point guard will come into the UBL with ratings similar to B B- B B C+ A. Obviously, he is incredibly talented and will make a bang straight away with his ability to take the ball inside and handle the rock, as well as play solid to great defense.
The second player is Mayo's team mate, Bill Walker who will enjoy similar ratings to Mayo, except Walker is a better outside shot, however does not penetrate the key as well nor handle the ball at Mayo's level. Walker will grace the league with a set of ratings such as B- B+ C B C+ B. His potential is really unknown at the moment. He will not bust thats for sure, however as to how much more he can improve is undetermined as he is already a quality player. Averaging 20ppg plus in his rookie year and 25+ in his second year is definetly not out of the question.
Player number 3 who isnt in the same league as the above 2 is a small point guard with excellent handles, and very reminisent of a TJ Ford type of player, Tywon Lawson. Lawson has a good outside shot however can be timid when it comes to taking the ball inside. Tywon is a great on ball defender and can read the play well. "T-Law" should come into the UBL with ratings similar to C+ A- C+ C D+ A. Very nice eyy?
After the above 3, Mayo, Walker and Lawson, dont be surprised, or in this case, disapointed to see a top 10 shooting guard with C+ B- C+ C+ C+ B ratings or similar. Landing a top 3 pick will be imperitive in this years class, so landing a Daniel Gibson type player past 5 his incredibly unlikely.
2010
At the moment, 2010 looks to be a very nice class with several young prospects expecting to declare. We have the emergence of young Aussie Ashley Orr who sadly has been compared to Andrew Bogut, where as in reality, he is more like a white Lama Odom with a better inside game. We also have the all round beast Tasmin Mitchell as a likely prospect, as well as European sharp shooter Manchur Markoishvilli, lanky power forward Kyle Luckett and the second coming,Marcus Jordan, a 6'8" small forward who will most definetly be a top 5 type player that will enjoy such ratings as B+ C+ C+ B B A, very unique.
2011
The year 2011 will see the emergence of an incredibly deep and talented draft pool, much like 2006. Guard DeMar DeRozan will head the crop with many other young talents following.
2012
Here, we will see the emergence of a true European stud, Vilmantys Dilys and a very impressive outside shooter with mad handles, Lance Stephenson. An exciting year, more details will be released soon!
