High School Player Camps 2005
Reebok ABCD Camp {Teaneck, New Jersey}
This years Reebok ABCD camp didn’t disappoint when fan favorites {Greg Oden and O.J. Mayo} and celebrities Jay-Z and Baron Davis showed up. Reeboks ABCD camp is normally in the shadows of Nikes All-American Camp but not this year. The 22nd Reebok ABCD player camp consisted of superstar matchups like { Kevin Love vs Greg Oden}, {Lance Stephenson vs O.J. Mayo}, {Greg Oden vs Derrick Character} and {Paul Harris vs O.J. Mayo}.
Before Kevin love matched up with Greg Oden, he was destroying the competition and embarrassing all the bigmen he faced. But in the Matchup vs Greg Oden, love luck would run out. Oden Dominated love my showing his total package of Offense, Defense, Rebounding, and Passing. By Oden doing a number on love showed how good and how much potential Oden really had.
In the Matchup of the underclassmen {O.J. Mayo vs Lance Stephenson} the superstar guards of the future gave a treat to the crowd. Stephenson {freshman} was though to be no match for the highly athletic O.J. Mayo {Junior}, but did not seem to be the case. In the showing of the two, Stevenson got the better of Mayo by breaking Mayo’s ankles multiple times and provoking Mayo into a pair of Technical Fouls. Mayo didn’t have his best game on and said “He did real good, He did better than me when I when I was a freshman.” Lance won the first showing but in the second matchup of the two Mayo showed why he is known as a phenom and put all the rumors to sleep, by shutting Stephenson down defensively and putting on a shooting clinic.
In the Bigmen Matchup of Greg Oden and Derrick Caracter, Oden showed again why he is so valuable even though Caracter outscored him 13-12. Oden outplayed him the entire game until the end when Caracter dropped a couple 3’s.
The mutch anticipated matchup of O.J. Mayo and Paul Harris didn’t go as expected. Harris at first look didn’t seem that he would have enough to compete with O.J. Mayo but would prove everyone wrong. Paul Harris who is compared to the next Ron Artest {without the crazyness} shut Mayo down by one allowing him to score 2 points and went 1-10 from the field. The show that Harris put on showed the world that he was a class of 06’ Stud. O.J. Mayo didnt go well in the hyped up matches, but overall had a great camp and showed why is the next great thing
Other Notes: Bill “sky” Walker {O.J. Mayo’s teammate at North College Hill, Ohio} showed a display of spectacular dunks and put on a huge show for the crowd earning the underclassmen MVP.
Look to see Greg Oden, O.J. Mayo, Paul Harris, Kevin Love, Lance Stephenson, and Daniel Hackett tearing up the NBA hardwood in the future.
Adidas Superstar Camp {Suwanee, GA}
The Adidas Superstar Camp many potential superstars showed up like Wayne Ellington, Michael Beasley, and Javaris Crittenton.
At the start of the Camp swingman Thaddeus young looked to take the show but was a huge disappointment. Young struggled at his whole game and looked like a bust, but may be because of his sprained ankle that he was recovering from.
Senior Swingman Wayne Ellington looked like a great talent but exceded his expectations by outperforming everyone. Ellington a future Tar Heel earned MVP honors and blew up the stat sheet by shooting 12 of 15 and had 32 points. Ellington was on fire the whole game and slightly outperformed PG Javaris Crittenton Jarvis started slowly but bounced back and hit 6 of his last 7 shots, and finished with 29 points and the win. Crittenton and Ellington played great the whole week but Ellington was rated the top performer of all the camps.
Michael Beasley showed his all around game all week. He showed tremendous dunks, long range, and his blocking ability but was in the shadow of Ellington.
Look to See: Wayne Ellington, Michael Beasley, Javaris Crittenton, Aaron Moore, Kodi Augustus, and Erving Walker tearing up the NBA hardwood in the future.
Nike All-American Camp {Indianapolis}
In the Nike All-American Camp ballers like Kevin Durrant, Sherron Collins, Jerryd Bayless, and Tywon Lawson showed up.
Kevin Durrant looked to be the most talented player to attend the Nike camp but attending the camp late didn’t help his cause. Durrant only showed up for the last day but did make a impact by showing his versatile game and his sharp shooting ability.
The matchup of Sherron Collins against Tywon Lawson turned out to be extrodinary and the games was decided late in the game. Both are star Point Guards who are compared to someone like a Sebastian Telfair. Both played great but was to be decided in the final seconds. In the final minutes Lawson hit a 3 point to take the lead but collins responded with a reverse layup to give his team the win.
Look to see: Kevin Durrant, Sherron Collins, Tywon Lawson, Duke Crews, and Tyreke Crews tearing up the NBA hardwood in the future.
