We're days away from the second biggest event that's taking place in the UBL...the All Star weekend! Now today we're going to look at some possible candidates that will represent the East and the West. Names like LeBron, Garnett, Duncan, Shaq, Iverson, Bryant, and TMac are sure to be a part of it, but let's look at some things.
Point Guards
The leading player in assists per game is Jason Williams of the Houston Rockets. They are 1 game above .500, and the reason that percentage is that low is because of his lack of scoring. Jason's averaging 7.7ppg in 40 minutes per game. Now you might ask yourself "well how the hell did that happen?" It's easy... He has Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming as teammates so he's primiraly a pass first PG. He's going to struggle to even come off the bench for the West, but we all know that he's one of the flashiest players in the league.
Chris Paul of the Hornets will give Wade a run for his money. Averaging just below 20ppg, and 9.3apg, Chris Paul looks to be the future guys of the league while playing spectacular right now. He's the obvious leader of this team, and they're surprising teams out in the strong eastern conference. I expect to see Chris Paul at the All star weekend for sure.
Dwayne Wade will probably start for the West averaging 22.7ppg, 5.9rpg, and 8.9apg. He's also a crowd favorite wherever the Suns' away game is. C'mon the guys nickname is Flash, so what else do you expect? He already won a Finals MVP, so an All Star appearance woudln't be a big deal for this guy.
Shooting Guards
The leading scorer coming out of the SG position is Allen Iverson. His team (Pistons) might not be drawing a lot of cheers this season but you can't take that away from The Answer. Iverson is averaging a UBL career high 29.3ppg and doing it with style. He still has his crossover, his speed, his body balance when going to the hoop, and his love for the game.
One of the most "underrated" players in the league is Larry Hughes. He was an All Star participant last year, and he looks to have another one written in his resume. Probably coming off the bench for the East.
He inked his $170 million this off season, Averages 25/6/6...and he's number 1. Yes Im talking about Tracy McGrady. His GM might have put pressure on him sending him to the trade block, but it's pretty safe to say that he'll stay a Rocket when the All Star weekend arrives. He's one of the most skilled athletes in the UBL and always has fans in every arena he plays in.
Pierce and TMac will fight for the SG spot to the end, because Pierce's nearly 29ppg, 7.4rpg and 4.8apg is strong enough to get the starting job. This one will be just like the KB vs. LJ battle.
Small Forwards
There's a interesting battle going on in the West for the starting Job at the SF position. The competitors are LeBron James and Kobe Bryant. Kobe averages almost 3 points more per game and has the edge in Steals, but LeBron takes the cake in RPG and APG by a few decimals. LeBron's Team is 2-0 in the season vs. Kobe's but has had a better matchup. Kobe's smarter and more skilled and experienced, but LeBron is more athletic and stronger. This battle for the spot will be decided by the fans and it will come down to the last minutes of voting.
Carmelo will have a tough time making it because he's also in the West with the two beasts above. He was a bench warmer last all star game, so he better put up or shut up this next sim.
Once a UBL champion and All Star in 2005, Antawn Jamison looks to take the slice once again. His numbers have gone up from last year, so his chances of making the Eastern team are pretty locked. He's averaging almost 25ppg and 7.7rpg...the Wizards are looking to get their title back.
Power Forwards
Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett will be sharing minutes for the West.
Nowitzki and Amare will be sharing minutes for the East.
There are good PF's on both sides, but these 4 players just can't be replaced. It would be a total surprise if one of them doesn't make it.
Centers
Shaq vs. Yao? JO vs. Oden? Hmm... by the look at the stats, It looks like JO vs. Yao but anything can happen. Oden's a rookie so fans might hesitate to bubble in his name. Not saying he hasn't played like an All Star this season, because he has, but there's just too many good big men and not enough room.
3 Point Contest
DerMarr Johnson, Louis Williams, Gilbert Arenas, Daniel Gibson, and Allen Iverson will all be the favorites. But when it comes down to it, Allen Iverson can get hot, but he's not known for his remarkable 3 point shooting. Arenas has the range, but do you really think he can sink 50% of them? I sure don't. It's gonna come down to Gibson and Williams. DerMarr is a good shooter, but c'mon, he barely plays 20 minutes a night. The winner? Gibson.
Dunk Contest
LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, Amare Staudemire and Tracy McGrady will all be contestants. Tony Allen has the ability to come from behind and just spark the crowd with his aerobatic dunks. Another one time Bostonian, Ricky Davis has said that he'll be in it. This year will be fun to watch because a lot of big names are in it.
