Champs Nybombers3 James
Infamous Dane: Alright, Hi guys and thanks for tuning into this late Fact or Fiction Off-Season Edition. We were waiting for Joer but I guess he just couldn't make it tonight. Probably drinking right now and partying with his friends YA!!. Anyways, lets get this stuff started. Here we have Nybombers aka Andy, gives a wink. Next to him we have the infamous Champs who is from Canada. Finally, here is the Kanger man from Australia, James. Welcome all of you to this edition, I am very excited to have 3 GMs from the UBL tonight.
QUESTION # 1
Infamous Dane: 1. Fact or Fiction. With O.J. Mayo in Seattle and Bill Walker being in Portland. Bill Walker in the end will easily see more Championships then O.J. Please consider that O.J. and Walker will stay with their current teams for their whole career.
O.J. Mayo and Bill Walker showing that their friendship is strong.
Nybomers3: Fact: Let's not forget that Walker has this guy named LeBron James on his team. OJ has more talent around him but aside from a few players, they are on the older side. I'm not a huge fan of Diaz and I belive Swift/Sweets won't be growing any more. Also, I would be saying that I'm a bad GM if I said OJ would win more titles then Walker. That shit ain't happening.
James: Fact: Jay is a decent GM however I don’t think he is ‘smart’ enough to surround OJ with talent. He was lucky to get Mayo in the first place. If he didn’t, his team would be in the usual position, finishing 9th or scraping into the playoffs before being knocked out in round 1. In regards to Walker, I see him winning a championship soon. His TC was pretty bad compared to what was expected of him, however he is playing with the leagues second best player in LeBron James, as well as Marvin Williams and young Bassy Telfair.
Champs: Fact. OJ Mayo will easily be the better player out of the two, but Bill Walker, Marvin Williams, Lebron James and co. is just too deep and deadly. They're all still not developing and will all likely be allstars when they are infact done. The Sonics do have a very strong team, but whenever you have Lebron James to build around, you just can't go against them.
QUESTION # 2
Infamous Dane: 2. Fact or Fiction. After, looking like the team with the best future, the Kings now are not even going to contend for a title this year.
Nybomers3: Fact. Unless I missed something, the Kings have Shaq, Kobe and, um, yeah. Unless Kobe and Shaq really play amazingly thoughout the whole season, I can see them making the playoffs but not contending for a title this year.
Kobe's career as a King hasn't be King like yet.
James: Fact: This is Sacramento’s last year. If they don’t win it now, they never will. Shaq is on the decline and obviously isn’t going to get much better. If he doesn’t fall like a dead goat this year, he may retire. They still have Kobe, however no supporting cast. It will be interesting to see the direction the Kings take in the coming seasons.
Champs: Fiction- The Kings previously did a pretty nice job trading for some solid youth. However, any team that features Kobe Bryant and Shaq with a pretty solid supporting cast which includes Bobby Simmons and Andre Miller, has to be considered a contender. Sure they lack overall depth that they once had, but they still do have a nice team. They may not win the championship, but you just can't look past them.
QUESTION # 3
Infamous Dane: 3. Fact or Fiction. Tywon Lawson still has a chance to become a top point guard in the league even though he didn't do all that will after training camp.
Nybomers3: Ficition. If I can keep hope alive on Walker, I guess igob can do the same for Lawson. Saying that, I think he'll be a solid PG in this league. I can't see him end up becoming a top PG. Just a nice PG that teams would want to start and would rely on. Then again, these type of PG's are considered fucking gods in this league.
James: Fiction: Lawson, like so many others had a bad TC in comparison to hopes and expectations. He is now the number 2 point guard in New York behind Mario Chalmers and may not see more than 20mpg this year. Maybe if Tywon can pop open a sensational TC this season he may become one of the leagues better point guards, although I don’t see him becoming one listed in the top 5.
Champs: Fiction- I just don't see him being on the same level as a Daniel Gibson, Chris Paul, Deron Williams or even a Jason Kidd. There are several top PG's in this league....and I'm not so sure he's going to be among the best. He will become a solid PG one day, but not one of the best.
QUESTION # 4
Infamous Dane: 4. Fact or Fiction. Draft at number 5 by Toronto DeAndre Jordan will turn out to be a better player then both Tywon Lawson and the European sensation Andrea Bargnani.
The number 3 pick in the draft (Tywon Lawson) never developed this off-season.
Nybomers3: Fact. I'm pretty sure he'll be better then Lawson. It's questionable for me between Jordan and Andrea but Andrea has a female's name so I choose Jordan. Not to mention, Jordan is the better rebounder. Not sure who's the better scorer, might be DJ as well.
James: Fiction: Lawson had a bad TC, however he is still a decent player. And if pre season is anything, it shows that Bargnani can play and core. Jordan, if he works can become a better player than Lawson, although I don’t see him touching Bargnani.
Champs: Fact. I may be a little biased here, mainly because I was extremely high on Jordan when I read scouting reports and followed him throughout the season. A solid young big man like Jordan is not easy to find, and if his team decided to trade him....he'd have extremely high trade value.
This was the weakest lottery draft in the UBL ever.
QUESTION # 5
Infamous Dane: 5. Fact or Fiction. James has had some big time star power in other drafts. Overall this draft has been the weakest the UBL has seen in current history.
Nybomers3: Fact. This draft sucked. Seriously though, aside from Mayo, the draft looks medicore at best. Of course, it's way to early to tell either way but i'm just going by how it looks thus far.
James: Fact: This years draft was horrific unless you landed a top 3 pick. Sorry guys! This years should make up for it!
Champs: Fiction- Every draft cannot have solid young players from top to bottom. In a few seasons, some of the players that were infact selected later in the draft will likely emerge as solid role players. You just cannot call a draft which includes a superstar in OJ Mayo, a potential superstar in Bill Walker, and potential allstars in Jordan, Lawson and Bargnani the worst in history.
All this talk about O.J. Mayo, but the Seattle Sonics don't look like a title contender just yet.
QUESTION # 6
Infamous Dane: 6. Fact or Fiction. Even though some great talent was exchanged between both the Boston Celtics and the Portland Blazers. This is the smartest deal, which was made by a team in the off-season. The Blazers come out looking very smart because Kevin Garnett will die off or be gone in a couple of years.
Nybomers3: Die off? What, Dru's going to hire a hitman to get rid of KG for not resigning? Either way, fact. Simply, I was not going to win with what I had so I might as well get younger and have some fun with the lineup I have now. So in terms of being smart, getting younger players who more then likely still have some potential for a player that's old and is only going to get worse sounds pretty smart to me
Kevin Garnett was signed by the Blazers then sent to Boston for Marvin and Telfair.
James: Fiction: Garnett will die off in 4 seasons, no sooner. Boston now can compete with the leagues best player, an excellent point guard, athletic and versatile shooting guard and a nice back court of former #5 pick LeMarcus Aldridge and an improve Rafael Araujo.
Champs: Fact- Both teams came out winners. Boston got the best player in the league right now in Kevin Garnett and the Blazers solidified their roster for years to come. Kevin Garnett will die down somewhat over the next few years, but you have to take that risk. Boston has many key players to surround him with.
QUESTION # 7
Infamous Dane: 7. Fact or Fiction. Even though Mike Bibby isn't his old self and isn't able to score 20 points a game. While Drew Gooden lost his defense, this deal made the Detroit Pistons instant contenders this year.
Bibby is aging but is now finally on a title contending team.
Nybomers3: Fiction: Both players should make the Pistons better but I can't see them being the difference between making them a playoff team and a championship caliber team.
James: Fact: Detroit have always been contenders, and with their most recent trade and stellar training camp, I see no reason why the Pistons shouldn’t make or even win the 2010 UBL championship. Baller started off slowly, however has assembled a team which posses the best current and future talent in the league.
Champs: Fact- The Pistons already had 2 of the leagues top players in Yao Ming and Allen Iverson, and recently acquired 2 other solid players to go along with them. Mike Bibby will still be a nice guard and Drew Gooden just makes that lineup even more dangerous. I think the Pistons will be a top team in the East this year.
The Chicago Bulls need some help as they continue to struggle.
QUESTION # 8
Infamous Dane: 8. Fact or Fiction. We have talked about this for 3-4 straight years and here we go again. The Chicago Bulls are the worst team in history of the UBL, to have amazing talent but not make the playoffs. As well, this is because both General Managers Joer + Kyjuan don't know what to do with Bosh and Amare in the post.
Nybomers3: Ficition. They arent the worst. They are, however, the most mismangaged team in the history of the UBL. That team has plenty of talent and should be contending for a title instead of contending for the 8th seed. It doesent help that a prior GM cheated.
James: Fact: Chicago need changes. Stop waiting for miracle TC’s please Joer, do something. Trade Amare, deal Bosh, whatever, but make your team win. If you don’t make the playoffs this year I am going to label you as the leagues worst GM. But I don’t think that’s fair, maybe the leagues laziest GM. This season is do or die for the talented Bulls.
Champs: Fiction- They are definately not the worst team in UBL history, there have been worse teams. They have been one of the more disappointing teams though. The league expects this team to do some damage every year, due to the names on their roster...and they fail to live up to expectations. I believe they're just a few roster changes away from changing that.
QUESTION # 9
The Nuggets got a great young talent for Baron Davis.
Infamous Dane: 9. Fact or Fiction. The Warriors made a big mistake trading Hakim Warrick as well as 3 future 1st round picks in order to acquire the aging star in Baron Davis.
Nybomers3: Fact. I liked BD but BD is a turnover proned PG, period. That should've put down his value some. Unless he either gets put through a camp or for whatever reason his tpg goes down big time, the Warriors will be pretty upset with BD. Let's not forget that he went down this TC.
James: Fact: Warrick is teh sickness. Baron Davis decline, however Beasly had the right idea in mind. He needed a point guard badly and he got one of the best in the UBL. Golden State are a very scary team and are one of the favourites to take the championship this year.
Champs: Fiction- Baron Davis may be aging, but he is definately that point guard that they needed. The Warriors have a very exciting lineup and those picks will likely be late. I do not believe that this trade was a mistake as it was a position which needed to be addressed.
