After a star packed 2007 draft, things seem to be easing down with only 4 legitimate, possible starters amongst the 2008 crop. Although it is only early days, there has been verbal committment from Kevin Durant, Javaris Crittenton, Julian Wright, Alexis Ajinca, Darrell Arthur, Roman Gumenyuk, Tim Ohlbrecht, Paul Harris, Thaddeus Young, Troy Sandley and Brook Lopez. From the group, only Durant, Crittenton, Wright and Harris have been labeled stars with Alexis Ajinca a question mark after the failure of recent European rookies Nemanja Aleksandrov, Ante Tomic and Victor Claver.
Kevin Durant
Kevin Durant is one of a kind, so the above statements are taking nothing away from him. A 6'10", 205 pound small forward, Durant is reminissent of a taller Kobe Bryant, displaying excllent defensive stance and the ability to shoot amazing shots off balance, off the drible and from the 3 point line. Durant is a flat out scorer who can play defense. Some beleive he is a better version of Rudy Gay, others beleive he is in another dimension all together. Gay's 3 point range as highlighted is good, however not as consistant as it should be, however is amazing jump shot makes up for it.
Jarvis Crittenton
Jarvis Crittenton is another player who can come into the league and play right off the bat like Ellington. A 6'4" point guard, Crittenton has already been compared to Boston's Daniel Gibson due to his phenominal speed and great outside shot. Scouts though rate him as being better saying he is a better penetrator and defender.
Julian Wright
Julian Wright is somewhat similar to Durant, except he is more of an inside playing small forward rather than an outside playing one like Kevin. Wright has no 3 point range, however can take you off the dribble and settle for the jump shot. He is an amazing athlete who is also an incredible shot blocker, much like Josh Smith to whom he draws the most comparissions from.
Alexis Ajinca
Paul Harris is a 6'4" shooting guard who is incredibly strong inside with a very nice three point shot. He is very quick however tends to go for flash over the fundamentals. Some beleive he is like a smaller Earl Clark without the stability, however with a lot more scoring range. Alexis Ajinca is the best European prospect in the draft and he hails from France. He isnt like the Clavers, Aleksandrovs and Tomics of yesteryear, in that he will be able to come into a UBL teams lineup and straight away contribute 10-15ppg. He is a 7'0" small forward/power forward that can play inside, however also contains a jump shot. Look out for him.
