Before everyone goes trading away their 2010 first round draft picks, I thought Id shed some much needed light on next years draft class.
Following a 4 man deep 2009 draft, the 2010 draft will play host to 6-7 possible number 1 draft picks. Draft experts and sources close to the Collegiate scene have been quoted saying "I think next years class - if they all decide to go to the UBL, will be the best draft since 96 in where we saw the development of Allen Iverson, Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, Ray Allen, Stephon Marbury, Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Antoine Walker, Peja Stojakovic and Jermaine O'Neal".
Heading the class of 2010 will be 6'1" point guard Terrell McKenzie, 6'7" small forward Tasmin Mitchell, 6'9 small forward Ashley Orr, 5'11" point guard Korie Lucious, 6'5" shooting guard Walter Offut, 6'7" small forward Olu Ashalou, 7'0" power forward Kyle Luckett and 6'7" shooting guard Jeffrey Jordan.
Lets take a light look at each of the aformentioned prospects. We first off have Terrell McKenzie who many beleive is the clear cut number 1 pick due to his versatility at only 6'1". He is very quick and can pass the ball well. McKenzie has a balanced offensive game and has one reminisent of an early Allen Iverson. We then have Tasmin Mitchell, a big tough 6'7" small forward similar to that of a more athletic Ron Artest. Mitchell is a rock defensivly and likes to play inside rather than out due to his size and weight. A top 5 selection indefinetly. We also have our first (of many who will be declaring later on in the year) international prospect, young Australian Ashley Orr who will be looking to follow in the footsteps of fellow Australian Andrew Bogut. Orr is incredibly lanky and uses it to his advantage in blocking shots and shooting little jump shots over smaller opponents. Korie Lucious has also been acclaimed the premier player of this class due to his superior shot, speed and athletisism. Standing at only 5'11", Korie's lack of strength may push him down the order in what is a great draft. In any other, he would have been a lock for top 2. Walter Offut has been hailed Mr. Everything due to his ability to score, pass, rebound and defend. Offut is a sensational perimiter defender although he can also go back on his player on the other end, the offensive one. A true dime who also has an opportunity to go first. Young Olu Ashalou is probably the weakest of the bunch due in much part of his inconsistant shot. Even so, Olu is incredibly fast and loves to use his speed to get to the basket for easy layups and flashy dunks. And finally, we have Mr. Jordan, Mr Jeffrey Jordan. Standing a whole inch taller than his father with his dads rookie like frame, Jordans pull up jump shot and air acrobatics bring back fond memories of yesteryear. In saying that, we cannot compare Jeffrey to his father at all. He has a shaky outside shot and doesnt like to defend inside the key at all. He also doesnt seem to have the intensity his father once held. I suspect he should fall between 4-7 however the name and legacy he brings with him may place him inside the top 3.
