How The Future Can Change So Quickly
The Milwaukee Bucks had just resigned Michael Redd to a monster contract and drafted Andrew Bogut # 1 overall. They believed it was time to make a serious run for that Eastern Conference title. They retained Dan Gadzuric and went out and put big money down on Free Agent SF Bobby Simmons to get a heck of a lineup put together. Then the words came that shocked Jason Barrow, GM of the Bucks.
Disgruntled Michael Redd
Michael Redd came into my office and requested a trade. He never really wanted to be a Buck when he signed, but we were the team that could give him the most money, for the most years. He was just using us to help his greedy ass.
Jason Barrow decided that in order to take that Eastern Conference Title they would need to have guys that wanted to be on this team. He began to shop Michael Redd around very quickly. It was easy to find suitors for Mr. Redd as he is one of the best scorers in the game. Milwaukee Bucks freshly hired Coach Mike Krzyzewski, out of Duke University, wanted defense on his team.
The Bucks had sent Veteran Joe Smith and overrated SF Desmond Mason along with a few picks to the Portland Trailblazers to acquire Future All Star PF Zach Randolph and Darius Miles. Bobby Simmons was talking to Coach K during practice and wanted to move to SG (once Redd is gone) where he felt his ability on defense would be better suited. This left a gaping whole at the SF position. Darius Miles was believed to be the teams backup SF, but Coach K did not want him starting.

The phones were ringing. Many teams wanted Michael Redd, but few could give an offer that was needed. Then finally the perfect phone call came. Ron Artest wanted out of Indiana to start his career over (due to the Pistons/Pacers fight incident) and Indiana was looking for a scorer to go along with JO. Michael Redd was shipped instantly with a few scrubs for Ron Artest, the definition of defense, and Austin Croshere, a large expiring contract.
Newly Acquired Ron Artest
The future had changed so quickly in Milwaukee. The starting five was projected to be TJ Ford, Michael Redd, Bobby Simmons, Joe Smith and Andrew Bogut, with Dan Gadzuric as the 6th man. The new lineup looked to be TJ Ford, Bobby Simmons, Ron Artest, Zach Randolph and Andrew Bogut, with Gadzuric and Miles off the bench. The Bucks decided it was not time to stop. Jason Barrow was on a role and decided to make a few more moves to get this franchise set. With 2 of his next 3 first round picks gone he really needed to add some quality depth for a few years.
Austin Croshere’s stay in Milwaukee lasted less than 48 hours. He was shipped to the rebuilding Lakers for PFs Kwame Brown and Ronny Turiaf. Kwame Brown, a Buck for 25 hours, was then dealt to the Indiana Pacers for Stephen Jackson and Anthony Johnson. Stephen Jackson had lost his starting job due to the recent acquisitions of Michael Redd and Quentin Richardson.

The Bucks then moved onto finding themselves another PG because they didn’t think Maurice Williams could repeat his last season and were afraid that TJ Ford would not be ready for his return to the UBL. The Bucks made quick moves getting a PG and brought in highly underrated PG Rafer Alston from the Raptors.
Newly acquired Rafer Alston finally free from Alvin Williams
The Bucks went on to acquire Marko Jaric with an MLE offer in Free Agency to add more depth to their backcourt.
The Final Piece Marko Jaric
With the addition of Alston and Jaric the Bucks believed the best idea was to send TJ Ford down to the UBDL, so he could work on his game and make sure he was back to 100% from that neck injury. He is believed to stay in UBDL all season and come up next year with a vengeance.
Things are looking great for the mighty Bucks, who looked to have taken a turn for the worst when Michael Redd stepped in. Things have cleared up and GM Jason Barrow has definitely brought hope and expectation to the Bucks organization. This is probably the deepest team in UBL. At each position there is at least 1 backup. When GM Jason Barrow was asked what he thought about Michael Redd demanding a trade he responded with, “I am glad he did because this teams expectations went from playoff hopefuls to UBL Champs. It is time to bring the nation to Milwaukee so they can see how great we are.”
Everything is all smiles now in Milwaukee, just ask Ron Artest and his fellow Bucks.
