After being picked in the 2nd round by the Los Angeles Lakers, rookie guard Von Wafer practiced with the team for several weeks before receiving news that he'll be going to the UBDL to gain some UBL-type of game experience before he steps on the court as a backup for Kobe Bryant. Von Wafer wasn't going to argue Hamadani's decision, so he packed his bags knowing that there's a reserved spot in the Lakers locker room when he gets back. As for now though, Von Wafer needs to take care of things in the UBDL, and this is how his first 12 games went...
Game 1
WON 95-88 (no box score, sorry)
Game 2
In a loss, Wafer dropped 17 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists.
Game 3
WON...32 points, 6 rebounsd and 3 assists.
Game 4
WON...25 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists.
Game 5
In another loss, Wafer had 25 points, 8 rebounsd and 5 assists.
Game 6
Second straight loss, Wafer with 31 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists.
Game 7
LOST 91-73 (no box score)
Game 8
Beat the Frost...Wafer had 33 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.
Game 9
Lost to the Crusadors, Wafer drops 27 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists.
Game 10
Lost against Hitmen, Wafer's worst game of the season with 15 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist.
Game 11
In a win against Sasquash, Wafer had 24 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists.
Von Wafer had 2 Player of the Game awards coming in 2 wins, but the Hollywood Action aren't looking good as a team. What Laker GM Hamadani is concerned the most with is of course Von Wafer, who's going to have to stay out of any injuries that would lead him to miss playing time. Hamadani has promised Wafer that if he improves his handling skills and court vision, that he could get the Point Guard task, so he doesn't have to burn minutes behind Kobe. Won Wafer was asked how his experience in the UBDL was going and he said, "Im having fun out here, it's a little bit different than the UBL but the talent is there. Everyone is hungry and everyone wants to make it in the league, so you know guys will play dirty and more aggressive than the guys that are in the league already. It's a war zone out here, Im telling you". The Action coach was not able to comment on his team, but Hamadani was quoted saying They got the talent, right now the X's and O's aren't doing the job. Im happy our guy Von Wafer is doing his thing and Im looking forward on having him on our roster again. His work ethic is incredible and he won't stop until he gets it, I like those types."
Wafer's performance wasn't enough in a 4 point lossing cause against the Bombers.
So what's next for Wafer? How much longer will he wear the Hollywood Action jersey, and are his expectations higher or have they declined due to the UBDL teams record. One thing stands clear and it's that Wafer will be a Laker after he's done with the UBDL. Before games, Wafer's in the locker room bumping his head to a Tupac Shakur song getting ready for what's ahead of him. When he sleeps, he dreams the UBL. When he wakes up, he thinks about the UBL, and when he's playing on the court, all he thinks about is the UBL. If any UBDL player is ready for the UBL level, it's him. One of the better players in the UBDL, Won Vafer's future is unpredictable, it's up to him how he wants to finish his basketball career. Perform good in the UBDL, you'll be invited into the UBL. Perform good in the UBL and you'll have enough money in your account to support your grandchildren's children. Making a name for yourself after you're done is what it's all about, proving people wrong and making them believers is the number one objective of any UBDL player. Can Wafer do it? Stay tuned.
