The Miami Heat are holding a press conference to announce the recent blockbuster trade that brought Amare Stoudemire into Florida for Dwayne Wade, primarily. The Heat also got Raja Bell, Leandro Barbosa, and a lottery protected pick, while giving up fan favorite Udonis Haslem. Joe takes the mic…
“I’m here to introduce our 3 new players, Raja Bell, Leandro Barbosa, and AMare Stoudemire.” Crowd claps.
Joe: “Okay, any questions.”
Reporter 1: “What was the main reason you did this trade?”
Joe: “Well I think that with Shaq, Amare, and Lamar playing down low, no team can stop that. We have so much strength, height, and athleticism in the post that there should be many easy baskets. It should open up the lane for Jamal too, and get our shooters some open looks.”
R 2: “Did you have any second thoughts on trading away a young star like Dwyane?”
J R: “Well of course, when you are trading a guy like him who can do so much well it is a tough decision. I weighed the pros and cons many times over and just figured that a dominant inside game is better than a balanced one. This way we could fully take advantage of our height all the time, not just some of the time.”
R 3: “We know that you replaced Udonis with Aware at the power forward spot, but what about the point guard spot?”
J R: “Well we have Damon Jones, who started there for us last year. He is a good shooter and works great in the halfcourt offense since he always defers to Shaq and rarely turns the ball over. We also got Barbosa in the trade, who is young and can D you up. He will be fine as a backup. We are also looking to add a third PG or maybe even a SG by trading that pick we got in the deal.”
R 4: “Whatever happened to Wayne Simien being the teams power forward of the future?”
J R: “Personally I love Wayne and so does the rest of the organization. He is in the UBDL now to get some seasoning, since Malik Rose is proven as a backup PF. Wayne is still a big part of our future, and in a few years he and Amare at the PF spot should be vicious. I’ll find a way to get them both minutes in the future.”
R 5: “Are you concerned that both Amare and Shaq are going to become free agents this offseason?”
J R: “”Not really. Amare has said that he will stay with us if we win, which should happen, and if we give him a fair amount of money. I can say now that Amare will get a max deal from us this offseason, so no worries there. And Shaq loves Miami, plus we can offer him much more than anyone else, so he will also be back. WE should be around 9 million under the cap before they sign, so we may be able to grab a good free agent before resigning both, hopefully. And on that note, I’ve got to go discuss trades, thanks everyone.”
