1)Danny Granger, 6’9” 225 lbs
Position: SF
If there was a “this guy should be in UBL but their GM is either tanking or an idiot” hall of fame then Danny would be the first inductee. He is better than half the swingmen currently rotting on UBL benches but he has to prove himself because of a poor preseason. He is very likely to start for the Pacers next year. A year in the UBDL will give him a chance to work on his long ball. Pro swingmen don’t shoot 28% from the 3, Danny. He can already lock up with the best of them, his defense alone should credit him a spot on a UBL roster
Best Case Scenario: Ron Artest
2)Donta Smith, 6’7” 215 lbs
Position: SG
One of the most athletic swings in the league right now. He is listed as 215 but he’s more of a 235. His creativity around the basket reminds everyone of Vince Carter and Dr. J. If he could just hit the side of the barn with his jumper, he would be starting on a UBL team. There is still time and he seems to have the work ethic to become one of the elite players in the league. For now, he’s just feasting on the smaller guards of UBDL.
Best Case Scenario: Richard Jefferson
3)Kris Humphries, 6’9” 235
Position: PF
Another player who should be playing in the league right now. He leads the UBDL in scoring with a stellar 25.7 ppg to go along with 9.5 rpg. He flows well in the paint. He would definitely be a lottery pick if he entered the draft right now.
Best Case Scenario: Drew Gooden
4)Luther Head, 6’3” 179 lbs
Position: SG
Luther makes the “this guy should be in UBL but their GM is either tanking or an idiot” list. Head is averaging 24, 7,6 in 36 minutes of action and he’s one of the main reasons his team boasts one of the best records in ubdl. Head really could’ve helped the struggling Grizzlies squad with his splendid defense and slashing offense. For now, he’s wowing fans with his acrobatic play at the developmental level. He will be one of the most improved players in the league next year.
Best Case Scenario: Gilbert Arenas
5)Luke Jackson, 6’7” 215 lbs
Position: SF
He should be getting quality minutes off the bench right now but the Cavs are too damn loaded at the swings to do anything with a stud like him. Luke is feasting on UBDL talent with averages of 23,7,5 on 45% shooting. Once he improves his handle and adjusts to the UBL speed on the defensive end, he will definitely contend for a starter spot. He is an all around talent, capable of playing 3 positions.
Best Case Scenario: Matt Harpring
6)Julius Hodge, 6’7” 202 lbs
Position: SG
A prototypical combo guard, he will definitely find a home in the UBL next year. Combo guards like him are hard to come across. Hodge is tearing up the league with 21 ppg, 6 rpg and 8 apg on 47% shooting from the field. Teams should be taking a real hard look at him before going out and emptying the bank on a big name guy. His handle and passing is a bit erratic at times. If he can find a way to play under control, he could be starting for a team in a couple of years.
Best Case Scenario: Alvin Williams (pre 2002)
7)Von Wafer, 6’5” 210 lbs
Position: SG
Von is one of the craftiest scorers with a lightning quick release that makes him unblockable. He needs to keep working on his game. A bit too erratic at times and forces the play quite a bit. There are some attitude problems that need to be resolved. He will be in the UBL for a long time simply because of his ability to put the ball in the basket. He is averaging 25 ppg but expect that to improve. He might not be athletic enough for the 2 spot at the higher level.
Best Case Scenario: Ronald Murray
8)Beno Udrih, 6’3” 202 lbs
Position: PG
Udrih is a typical euro guard, the all around player. He can do everything at an average level but he has the ability to do it all on a better level. He needs to find some aspect of his game and refine it. He is not a deadly shooter or a great passer or a great defender. Once he finds his knack, nothing can stop him from becoming a successful point guard at the next level. I wouldn’t get my hopes high on a euro player though, especially a guard. When was the last time a 6’3” guard out of Europe came into the NBA and erupted on the scene 3 years later.
Best Case Scenario: Mark Jackson (with New York)
9)Andres Biedrins, 6’11” 240 lbs
Position: C
Biedrins is too young and too clueless to do anything productive in the UBL right now. He still has the skill and size to be a double double threat every night. He is averaging 17 and 8 but those stats are not too far off from his career averages in the UBL. I expect a good quality big men in a couple of years. The warriors won’t have to look elsewhere for their starting C.
Best Case Scenario: Zydrunus Ilgauskas
10)CJ Miles, 6’6”
Position: SG
There are players who average more points, rebounds and assists than him but CJ makes the top 10 over them simply because of his smooth demeanor and style of play. The league seems to agree as he recently won the UBDL rookie and player of the month. He is one of the smartest players on the court as he can find teammates with ease and play 3 positions on the court. His size helps him see over defenses. CJ is a long term project but his stellar play in the UBDL has certainly made the Raptors management more patient
Best Case Scenario: Joe Johnson
Notables: Keith Bogans, David Lee, Ryan Gomes, Linas Kleiza, Ersan Ilyasova, Kevin Martin, Bracey Wright, Pape Sow, Andray Blatche, Travis Outlaw, TJ Ford, Wayne Simien, Monta Ellis, Chris Taft
Position: SF
