After the Heat made a big splash in trading future superstar Dwayne Wade for another superstar big man Amare Stoudemire. The Cavs who are now 3rd place in the Eastern Conference and are now tied with the Pistons for the Division lead acquired one of the best point guard's in the league. What's suprising is that they parted with Larry Hughes who they just signed 60 days ago. Many people are wondering why they traded such a young promising SG for an aging PG who is just going to get worse. Well, some reports in Ohio say that Larry Hughes wasn't pulling his weight and was slacking because he now is going to have 50 million by the end of his career. Futhermore, LeBron was getting upset because he had to play the point guard position and lead the team in scoring. In addition, Larry Hughes was shipped off with Donyell Marshall for Jason Kidd, Mile Ilic, Zoran Planinic and finally the Nets 1st rounder in 2006. The GM InfamousDane has drastically changed this team, but Jason Kidd adds the same defensive intensity that Larry Hughes did. However, with Larry Hughes resently moving to PG, he has upped his production drastically. The Cavs GM, isn't to worried because Larry Hughes is going to be 27 next year, so he wasn't much much younger then Kidd. With a killer back-court the Cavs can now contend with the 76ers, Pistons and finally there rival the Miami Heat. The Cavs played the Heat this sim and demolished them 111-87. Even though Big Z was in foul trouble, they were still able to overcome the Heat lead by Lamar Odom. Chris Mihm and PJ Brown shut down Amare Stoudemire allowing him to only score 12 points on 3-17 shooting. LeBron lead the Cavs with 36 points and had to cover the very hot Jamal Crawford. All in all this deal worked out well as they have 10 million dollars of cap space next year, the Nets 2006 potential lotto pick and a very good core of young players down in the UBDL.
Here is Jason Kidd bringing the ball up the court.
LeBron James is exicited to have Jason Kidd in the Cleveland organization and now won't have to play point guard for a couple of years. With Jason Kidd being more of a defensive player and not known for putting up big games scoring wise, LeBron, Michael Finley and Big Z will have to pick up the scoring. In addition, LeBron James, Michael Finley and Big Z might not be enough to go far into the playoffs. This is why the GM is now looking for a scoring PF to move Mihm back to his natural position to back up Big Z. Furthermore, if the Heat do meet the Cavs again then the Cavs will be prepared with 2 big centers to match up against Shaq Daddy.
Here is Mile Ilic passing the ball on the top of the key.
Here is Zoran soaring in the air for the 2 points.
With these 2 youngerster being acquired it is most likely that they will be sent down to the UBDL. Now that the Lisgar Frost have some needed help at PG and C look for this team to get better with Luke and Martin. In addition, they now will have a rebounder and a guy who can pass the ball at the PG spot. With Zoran being 6'7 it will help the Cavs to play a big lineup in the future as well look for Mile Ilic to develop into the same player as Nenad Kristic in a couple of years. With LeBron in Cleveland the future is looking bright for this up and coming franchise. This might not be a beautiful city by the bay, but Ohio is becoming ecstatic with the teams direction. Finally, with Wade gone, LeBron can now take the East on his back at the age of 20.
Both these players were signed, during the summer... what happend?
Donyell was a great signing, but the Cavaliers needed a more defensive PF. Donyell couldn't score when he was starting and played better in a backup role. However, they needed a lot more production from him. Larry Hughes is a star in the making, but passing up on a sure star right now was to hard. Donyell and Hughes will be missed but LeBron James and Jason Kidd on one team is a dream come true. Look for the Cavs to make a couple more deals before the trade deadline to challenge some of the Eastern Conference competitors.
The Nets now have Larry Hughes, Paul Pierce and Vince Carter on the same team.
