Memphis, TN-- The season is almost over. With a record of 23 and 46 the Memphis Grizzlies are one of the worst teams in the UBL. A ROOKIE leads the assists in scoring and rebounding, another ROOKIE leads the team in assists.
Things could not be better!
Year number one of a three year rebuilding plan is almost complete. The offseason is when the Grizzlies management comes out of hibernation. GM Juniah, widely regarded as one of the most active general managers was missing in action the whole season after an initial trade burst. Well...The offseason is fast approaching and Juniah is getting ready to make some moves.
When asked if he was impressed by the progress of the Grizz this inaugural season, Juniah says "Well, we have two potential lottery picks. Four rookies are averaging points in double figures. Two of our rooks are averaging over 23 points in the UBDL." If you are still confused, what Juniah means to say is that this is one of the most successful rebuilding reasons anyone has ever seen.
Everyone thought fan favorite and rim rocker Hakim Warrick was going to be the top rookie on this team. But, that distinction belongs to rookie of the year candidate Fran Vasquez. Averaging 16.6 PPG and 9.0 RPG, Fran has solidified his spot in the front court for many years to come. What does that mean for Hakim? Well, rumour has it that he was on the trade block for most of the second half of the season.
"The kid averaged 11 and 6 in his rookie year. Yes, we did look into trading him but you've got to be kidding me if you thought that we were looking to unload him. He is an athletic freak at the SF position, alters a LOT of shots. " That sure sounds like a GM who is excited bout his players doesn't it? The city of Memphis, for one, doesn't blame him. Everyone in Memphis is excited and eager to see how this team matures this offseason.
Speaking of maturing, there are these two kids in the UBDL. One is averaging 23.6 PPG, 7.0 RPG, 5.4 APG. The other; 21.7, 4.1, 6.4. They go by the name of Luther Head and Bino Udrih, and they both play for Memphis affiliate Knoxville Bombers. No one has learned to play and mature like these two kids in the whole Memphis organization this year. Scouts around the league are saying that Luther Head should step into the starting lineup this upcoming season in the UBL. Bino on the other hand might need one more reason in the UBDL.
Whatever the case, this Memphis team is LOADED with young talent. We didn't even mention Jameer Nelson, Raul Lopez or Kirk Snyder in this whole article.
Don't forget the Memphis 2006 1st round draft choice.
Oh, AND Golden State 2006 1st round draft choice.
- GM Juniah
- PF Fran Vasquez
- SF Hakim Warrick
- SG Luther Head
- PG Jameer Nelson
