After the very talented Kngs underachieved and got eliminated in the first round of the 2005 playoffs, General Manager PHATMATT wanted to change his whole team and start over. He was quoted for sayijng "we had no team chemistry, i hope this new kings roster can get along better, and put there ego's aside on the court." The old kings squad looked like they had no room to improve, so when the team is average and is only gettin older its time to rebuild.
Old starters:
Steve Francis
Ricky Davis
Paul Pierce
Shareef
Jamal Magloire
New Startin Lineup:
Dwash
Ben Gordon
Brian Cardian and Marshall sharring time
Emeka Okafor
Channing Frye
Matt thinks that the key to sucess is Chemistry and Hard-working Hardnose basketball. If we can get Heart and Hustle out our bigmen, games will become much easier. With Newly aquired Center Channing Frye, and Power Foward Emeka okafor joining the team teams will think twice bout driving the lane. Both are Young Defensive studs who place fear in anyone who plans on scoring in the paint. Okafor's response of this comment was "I think that me and channing will become one of the best defensive combos in the UBL. I told Gordon that if we can play good team defense, we wont need much scoring to win each game."
The team will be carried by there defense from frye and meka, but the offensive play from Ben Gordon and Darius Washington will also be a force to be recon with. After DWash averaged 20ppg as a third option in the first preseason sim, people are already have him in the running for rookie of the year. GM PhatMatt thinks that Dwash is a scoring machine, but thinks if he is gunna be the kings pg of the future, he must be the floor leader, by leading in example. He says that his shot is one of the best in the league, but must improve his defense and passing skills to form his players trust.
The team has great Denfense in the post and a rising PG, but another key to the season is who is the go to man late in games. Without question this job would be given to Ben "Jordon" Gordon. In his short career he has proved that when its late in the game, Ben will take over. In his rookie season he led the league for forth quarter scoring with 10, and won games single handed his his clutch Defense and Scoring. GM PhatMatt compares him to a young Reggie Miller, because down the stretch you know that hes gunna be the one thats gunna get the ball, but you still cant stop him. Gordon responded by saying "I take huge pride in my clutch shooting but im not sure if its fair to compare me with a legend. I think that if Frye and Okafor can keep the game close going into the forth quarter, i have confidence that we will get the win becuase i feel like a different player at the end of the game.
Interview with Charles Barkley
Q: What are your expectations with this young but talented team?
A: Im not expecting a ring this year, i just want this team to grow together, and form chemistry.
Q:Who is the player on your team which will dosnt get enough recongnition?
A:That would have to be Brian Cardinal. People dont see the talent and scoring capability of this guy.
Q:Who will you declare as the starting SF by regular season? Brian Cardinal or Donyell Marshall?
A:I'lll start with Cardinal because he has showed me a lot in preseason, but Marshall has proved himself for years, so he might take over the starting job if i dont like what i see.
Q:What do you expect with a rookie pg being the floor leader?
A:Its gunna take time, but i got trust in him, because he has a lot of potential, and sending him to a couple pg camps will teach him more on how to be a NBA pg.
Q:Whats your thought of reuniting Ben Goron and Emeka Okafor?
A:I think its great for chemistry, because both have four years playing with each other at UCONN.
Q:Do you think Gordon and Okafor can bring a championchip to SAC-town like they did for UCONN.
A:No immediatly, but they will contend in the future, if we can keep the youth core together, and everybody plays there role.
