Last year the Sac-town Kings finished just out of the playoffs, so the kings GM Matt Decided to shake things up and get busy in the offseason.
2006 Starting Roster:
Frye
Okafor
Houston
Redd
Gordon
Draft: None
Offseason FA signings:Darko Milicic, Raul Lopez, Mile Illic
Trade 1: Michael Redd for Kirk Hinrich, Shakur and Sosa
Trade 2:Okafor, Lopez, Shakur, Sosa, Illic for TIM "MVP" Ducan
Trade 3:Expirings for Travis Outlaw and Kyle Korver
Trade 4:Travis Outlaw and Kyle Korver for Keith Van Horn and Howard Eisley
2007 Starting Roster:
Frye
Duncan
Van Horn
Gordon
Hinrich
6th Man: Darko!!!
The kings went from a below average team to a team that will compete amoung the best. Bringing in 2 Time MVP in Tim Duncan and Keith Van Horn disrupted the rebuilding process but was GM Matt was stating for saying "No team in the UBL would resist trading for Tim Ducan and Keith Van Horn and only giving up Emeka Okafor, Shakur, Sosa, Illic, and Lopez"
When Emeka Okafor was traded for Duncan, gordon was sad to see one of his best friends leave but also understand the buisness part of the UBL. Besides....Gordon still has good friend Kirk Hinrich which which was aquired in the same weef for Michael Redd.
The 2007 Kings Still Have a great young core in Hinrich, Gordon, Frye, and Darko, but decided to add veteran experience to move them along and to show them what winning is all about.
Through the first 16 games of the season the Kings have gone 9-7, but is much better than their mediocre start of the season. The team is expected to do much better and continue to win behind All-Star Tim Duncan. Duncan said after sim 2 that "we are underachieing, he rank amoung the top in defense and scoring, so it wont last"
GM Matt's interview with newly aquired Tim Ducan
Matt: Are you surprised from the Kings 9-7 start?
Duncan:Kinda, but its early in the season and with the scoring of kirk, gordon and van horn it wont last, trust me.
Matt:So far you are averaging 32ppg, 12rpg, 4apg, 2spg, and 2.5 bpg, do u those numbers deserve a MVP award?
Duncan:Im not worring about individual awards, the only thing im concerned with is leading us to a Title.
Matt: Kirk is playing great averaging 12ppg and 10apg. Where do u rank him amoung the elite PG's?
Duncan:Honestly....He is #1 in my book. He is doing a great job leading the team and distributing the ball to all of us at the right times.
Matt:Channing Frye is averaging 2.8 blocks and 10rpg in only 30mpg, What do you see in him?
Duncan:He is just a beast!!! I have never seen such a hard working big men at his age. He never is afraid to lay his body on the line to fight for the rebound or to get in the way of the opposers shot. He is very underated and dosnt get enough credit for his Defense. I think hes a replica of a Dalembert. He is our X-Factor.
Matt:What comes to mind when you hear the name "Ben Gordon"
Duncan:Clutch, Clutch, Clutch. He is never afaid to take the last shot and i think the whole team responds to his leadership skills.
Matt:What does the team have to do to bring a ring to Sac-Town?
Duncan:Continue to play great team defense and control the pase of the game with with are young studs.
Matt: Thanx for sitting down with me, Bring one home
Duncan:Anytime Matt, Good talkin with you but im sure the Sunz and Rockets have somthing to say about that!!!
