Inside the Sneakers: Rashard Lewis
Slam Magazine
Slam: We are sitting here with one of the NBAs brightest young stars. He's the starting SF and leader of the Seattle Supersonics.
Slam: How's it going Rashard?
: Could be better. Disappointed in my teams performance so far. The new pieces have yet to fit together.
Slam: 5-12 isn't great for a team that was 1 game away from the Western Conference finals two years in a row
: Your telling me. I'm getting frustrated have to answer questions about whats going on, whats this, why that. Years of being in the playoffs have spoiled me, plus its my first year playing without Ray.
Slam: Are you happy with the front office even after trading Ray Allen?
: No, not really. Ray was like a big brother to me, he showed me a lot of things in the time we were on the court. He helped me with my jumpshot, how to adjust to being in the public eye, and taking questions from the media. I wouldn't be telling the truth if I said I didn't miss him.
The chemistry right now is not clicking. We've had to bring in players off of free agency to try to fill holes in the team. We've had about 3 different backups for me. I don't think the coaching staff has found the right system that could get us back on track. Plus the players need to step it up.
Slam: Whats your take on the new additions to the team? Namely Kenyon Martin and Mardy Collins.
: K-Mart is a funny cat. He's also a productive player to top it off. His 2 steals and blocks a game really help take a load of Memo and Rob. His biggest assist this year was convincing management to sign Nene, that boy is a beast.
From what I've seen of Mardy, he's going to be a force in this league. He's already shooting the highest percentage on the team. I see alot of similarities between me and him. If you look at stats, I'm the better scorer but he brings it on defense and assists. That boy can handle the ball, unlike Guilermo. Sometimes Diaz looks lost out there. But back to Collins, he will probably be the best player on this team when I'm getting old. *laughs*
Slam: Sounds Good. Aside from the Sonics, who are some other teams you like in the league?
: My boy KG is balling it up in Denver, he needs to be in a Sonics uniform soon. I talked to Ray the other day and he's pissed he's not getting touches over there. He said the "Twin Towers" are hogging the ball. I don't blame him though, he can be productive but they are just younger. I feel bad for him in a way.
Slam: We'll its about time to wrap this up, anything else on your mind?
: Yea man, R.I.P. Udonis Haslem. I send condolences to the family and friends.
