It seems like a lot of the 2008 Rookies are struggling. Even with them probably getting a solid amount of playing time, they still aren't able to put up world class rookie numbers across the board. There are some rookies playing great but compared to the other drafts many aren't making any impact on their team this year. For instance Kevin Durant who was a lock for 15 points this season, however he is struggling to play well in limited minutes. Even though he will develop into a solid wing man, stardom is very unlikely unless he has a lot of hidden potential.
Top Rookies sent to the UBDL:
Paul Harris
Derrick Rose
Keith Brumbaugh
All the current players in the UBL were picked any were from 6 to 11 in this years draft. All three of this rookies are impressive but their teams have felt the heat and want to make sure they are given the maximum amount of potential to develop. Paul Harris, Derrick Rose, and Keith Brumbaugh would probably would start off with a horrible rookie career if they weren't sent down to the UBDL.
Top Rookie Numbers this season:
Eric Gordon SG 39 19.0 9.3 2.8 0.7, FG% 46, FT% 76, 3P% 49
Alexis Ajinca SF 40 31.0 9.6 5.7 2.8 1.3, FG% 47, FT% 712, 3P% 42
Jarvis Crittenton PG 35 36.3 11.7 5.2 5.6 2.1, FG% 45%, FT% 70, 3P% 269
Darrell Arthur C 32 30.1 8.4 8.4 3.0 1.1 2.6, FG% 42 FT% 55, 3P% 10
Julian Wright SF 34 28.2 11.7 5.4 2.9 1.2, FG% 46, FT% 64, 3P% 21
Roman Gumenyuk C 3 10.0 1.7 3.0 0.0 0.3, FG% 22, FT% 0, 3P% 500
Alex has been compared to Dirk, but scoring wise he just isn't doing that well right now.
A lot of teams now are looking to win which is making the 2008/2009 season one of the best seasons in the UBL. A lot of young teams are trading away their youth in order to climb in the standings. Which means, maybe making a playoff run will allow you to acquire young talent is going to be easier then ever. Making the transition is now easier then ever also because a lot of team's are willing to trade 20/10 stars in order to get a solid amount of young talent. Finally, not many teams were excited to draft a lot of these players, however very soon these rookies will be in high demand as some will make a enormous impact in a couple of years.
Julian Wright is a warriors, just look at his shirt.
A lot of these rookies actually developed in training camp. Which shows while they get a bad wrap as being one of the most weakest groups to ever come in the UBL. They have a lot of room to go, and some day will become great. Ironically, when Kevin Garnett, Allen Iverson, Ray Allen, Vince Carter, Tim Duncan, Dirk Nowitzki, Shaq O'neal retire, some of these players well someday be called the stars of the UBL.
Before the Draft:
Philadelphia 76ers - Darrell Arthur PF 6'9'' 220 21 C+ C- B- A- B A
Cleveland Cavs - Alexis Ajinca PF 7'0'' 205 19 C+ B C+ C C A
Minnesota Timberwolves - Jarvis Crittenton PG 6'4'' 222 21 B- C C+ B- C- A

Seattle Supersonics - Julian Wright SF 6'8'' 218 20 B+ C C+ C+ C B
Boston Celtics - Michael Beasley SF 6'7'' 210 19 C+ C+ C+ C+ C+ A
As you can see a lot of these players were raw and mediocre, however after training camp a lot of that changed. Most of the rookies improved even if it wasn't that drastic. Look out for next year as some of these guys will take big jumps to stardom.
After the Draft:
Philadelphia 76ers - Darrell Arthur C 21 6'9'' 226 B- C- B A- B B
Cleveland Cavaliers - Alexis Ajinca SF 19 7'0'' 205 C+ B B- C+ C+ A

Boston Celtics - Michael Beasley SF 19 6'7'' 210 B- B- C+ B- C B
Seattle Supersonics - Julian Wright SF 20 6'8'' 224 A- C C+ B C+ B
The average age for these players is around 20, which means they have a lot of room to grow and all these players had increases. Even though many didn't believe these draft players would be successful and non are dominating right now are in for a big surprise. Many teams who have gave up on the talent in this draft are likely to suffer and wish they had held onto these guys. Finally, looking into the future of these kids many will reach a high level and play above their GM's expectations.
Darrell Arthur is a beast inside, but is having major trouble scoring.
These rookies are very talented, but it seems like their isn't a rookie who came out of the 2008 draft thinking they could do everything at their positions. A lot of the players who came out can either score, but have some other glaring wholes in their game like defense. Or for some players, like Darrell Arthur are great rebounder's and defenders at such a young age, however it has been hard to score against the bigger and stronger UBL players. Finally, with Dwight Howard, Shaq O'neal, Jermaine O'neal, Dirk Nowitzki, Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan and Carlos Boozer still dominating the paint, getting big men from the rookie draft to produce against these guys will be nearly impossible.
