Draft Grades
Pick 1: New Orleans Hornets
Player: Jackson Jeffcoat PF 6'10'' 255 19 C+ D+ D+ B A A
Comment: Jeffcoact, in my opinion was the best player in this years draft. Compared to Dennis Rodman minus the attitude, Jeffcoat will provide the Hornets with a franchise player they can build around.
Final Grade: A
Pick 2: Memphis Grizzlies
Player: Kony Ealey C 7'0'' 245 21 B D+ D+ B- B- A
Comment: Ealey joins the Memphis Grizzlies and teams up with Tasmin Mitchell to form one of the UBL's best young tandems. A great post player with solid/above average rebound and defensive ratings, Ealey at 2 was a great move by the Grizzlies.
Final Grade: A
Pick 3: Orlando Magic
Player: Alberto Walsh SG 6'5'' 189 20 B- B B- C+ C- A
Comment: Walsh went into the draft un scouted so taking him at 3 is a big risk for Orlando. He has great ratings however the lack of coverage on his game leaves his potential make up almost a mystery. Time will tell how good this pick is.
Final Grade: N/A
Pick 4: Milwaukee Bucks
Player: Jayvuaghn Pinkston PF 6'11'' 230 21 B C C B C+ A
Comment: Pinkston had the talent and ability to go number 1 so being taken at 4 by the Bucks should be considered a minor steal. Often drawing comparissons to Kevin Garnett in his prime and receiving rave scouting reviews, Pinkstons impact in the UBL will be felt much earlier than expected.
Final Grade: A+
Pick 5: Toronto Raptors
Player: Sean Mcdonough Daniel SG 6'7'' 215 22 C+ B+ C+ B- C+ D
Comment: Mcdonough Daniel was the best player that came out of Europe this year. The young guard from Israel posseses a superb all round game. An excellent 3 point shooter, Daniel will pair up with young Kyle Luckett, Sebastian Telfair, Kirk Snyder and DeAndre Jordan.
Final Grade: A
Pick 6: San Antonio Spurs
Player: Demar DeRozan SF 6'7'' 215 21 B C+ C B- C A
Comment: DeRozan is incredibly athletic and loves to get to the whole. Jerry Stackhoue comparisons in his days in Philly and early ones in Detroit have started to arise only adding to the amount of hype surrounding the young 6'7" small forward.
Final Grade: A
Pick 7: Dallas Mavericks
Player: Tony Chenault PG 6'4'' 220 19 B D+ B- B- C+ B
Comment: Chenault is the new face of the Mavericks franchise. After a lack of identity over the last couple of seaons, the Mavs were in search of a cornerstone player to lead the player into the future, and they definetly picked one up in Tony Cheault. A very strong small guard who plays a lot like Baron Davis, TC will make an impact right away in the UBL permiting a good training camp.
Final Grade: A
Pick 8: Cleveland Cavaliers
Player: Randy Collins SF 6'8'' 235 19 B C B- B B B
Comment: A superb pick by Cleveland, Randy "All-Round" Collins who is already being compared to legendary Scottie Pippen was a steal for the Cavs who will most likely start right away, that is, if the Cavs didnt already have 3 other star forwards.
Final Grade: A-
Pick 9: New Jersey Nets
Player: Brandon Jennings PG 6'5'' 200 21 B- B- C+ C+ C B
Comment: I love this pick for NJ. Jennings who was potentially a top 3 pick managed to slip down to 9 for the Nets who are in dire need of a young franchise player. Probably my favourite pick from the draft.
Final Grade: A+
Pick 10: New York Knicks
Player: Luke Babbitt SF 6'8'' 226 22 C+ A- C C+ C- B
Comment: Not a BAD pick, however definetly not a good one when names such as Whittingham, Evans, Gromyko, Vilarino, Walker and Ross-Miller are still on the board. After a sensational 2010 draft, the Knicks get the thumbs down in 2011.
Final Grade: C
The Steals
Tyreke Evans SG 6'6'' 215 22 B- B C C C B to the St Louis Spirit
Steve Whittingham PG 6'3'' 177 19 C B B- C+ D B to the Milwaukee Bucks
Demetrius Walker SF 6'7'' 224 21 B- C+ C C+ C B to the Cleveland Cavaliers
G.J. Vilarino SG 6'3'' 209 22 C+ A- C+ B D+ C to the Dallas Mavericks
